What is the Oldest Egyptian Hieroglyphs?

The oldest Egyptian hieroglyphs were unearthed in 1999 in Abydos, 480 km (300 miles) south of Cairo. The clay seal impressions and ivory tags have been dated to between 3400 and 3200 BC. The tokens were used for labelling containers with goods such as cereals, oils and textiles.
